I love that you use a vintage flower frog to hold your layouts when you photograph them!

Very pretty.

I'm still trying to figure out how to get good photos of my layouts, nothing seems really to work consistently for me.

so what does everyone here do to get good layout photos?

Thank you Kristi!

I can't tell you how long I have struggled with getting decent photos of my layouts! I think I finally have found something that works for me.

I read every tutorial on how to take good pics and nothing I tried worked for me. I tried outside but that really limited me....I have poor natural light in my house because I have trees all around me...tried laying on the floor and taking it overhead....you name it, I've probably tried it!

What finally worked for me, is that I prop it up on my table facing the window. I open and pull my blinds completely open so that I get all the light I can. Then I also use my external flash facing upward so the light from the flash bounces from the ceiling (I had never used my flash on trying this before because I don't like flash but found I needed it for this).

This finally seemed to work for me giving me the light I needed without washing out my color.

Hope that helps and maybe gives you some ideas to try!

I'm the same way, I have tried so many things and occasionally one will come out pretty good, but I'd like to find something that works consistently.

I just love the way yours looks, and the flower frog is a nice touch-

I've been trying my photos outside but it looks terrible. Going to try facing a window tomorrow like you said, instead of on the floor like I've been doing, that should help.

I struggle to take photos of my traditional layouts too - I usually photograph my cards outside with a white cloth backdrop - much harder to do with the larger format.....so I'm open to any suggestions as well !??!

I actually think complete consistency is near impossible and this is why--the light is constantly changing. Time of day obviously affects the light I get from the widow, but so does time of year. I was getting great pics in one room over the summer, but when the light is different in the winter I had to change rooms. I cant face my projects directly to the window, because I dont have shade from trees so if I do I get glare on the photos. I use white poster board--one underneath and one behind my project. So my advice is to find the best scenario, but be open to changing it up if you start noticing the quality is not what it once was.

well that makes sense.

the last one I did I took in a room that gets the evening light and it turned out pretty good, but I might invest in some white poster board.

i couldn't agree more ... sheri, your images are beautifully photographed!! thanks for the tips...our house sits in the trees too and we have poor lighting in the house. i like your tip for facing the layout facing the window... i think that might be what i need to try in my kitchen.

Let me know how it goes. That has been the only thing that works for me. I even bought studio lighting with the backdrop etc and my photos still did not look good. I think I finally found what works for me.....but not after trying a hundred other things.

I use white foam board and my external flash - the best room for me to photograph them is my bedroom. I turn off ALL the lights and rely completely on my external flash to provide the lighting. I just don't have good enough indoor lighting and this works best for me. The foam board gives me great results since I can bounce my flash off of it!
