PostSubject: Hand pain   April 14th 2011, 13:00

For the past couple weeks, I'm getting crippling pain in my left hand. At first I was thinking carpal tunnel but it's very sporadic. I figure carpal tunnel would be more of a consistent pain, tingling, numbness. This is VERY sharp pain that is prominently on the backside of my hand although does at times extend into my wrist/elbow. Last night it was so bad I couldn't open my hand without feeling like it was broke and it woke me up from a dead sleep. It's tender to the touch or if I try to move my wrist around (which is also why I was thinking carpal tunnel).

Do you think the baby can be affecting my nerves???? I haven't been wearing ANY jewelry. I took my ring off a while ago because I tend to swell by the end of the day. LOL

I'm hesitant on contacting the doctor since they probably can't help right now since I would "assume" they would have to do an x-ray....but you know what they say about assuming.....................In either case - have any of y'all ever experienced something like this or have an idea on what it could be?

I've tried to google but really the only thing that pops up is the carpal tunnel. It's maddening since the pain is so crippling.

I don't think carpal has to be consistent 24/7 pain. you could try icing it to see if something is inflamed and aggravated and see if that helps.

I would ice and do some flexion exercises with it as well. As long as there was no injury. Simply press your hands together like you are praying and push them downward toward your belly button. My Dad just had CT surgery actually this week was his second hand and is doing so much better already. Just happen to know that is an exercise we should all do after being on the computer for 30 min. Or doing any repetitive motion with your hands.

I'm no expert but it could be a pinched nerve. I've gotten pain like that before in my arm and it was actually my neck. After an adjustment, I was fine.

Youch girl!!! I'm sorry to hear that you're hurting! Sounds like what my mom gets with CT....I'd call and just have them take a look!

Thanks ladies! I'm thinking it is Carpal Tunnel. My mom is going to send me her hand brace she had used when she had it for me to at least sleep in for now. Since nighttime is the worst for me right now.

And Joyce - that hand exercise you suggested actually does help alleviate the pain when it does strike! Thank you for that! love
