PostSubject: Shampoo talk   May 11th 2011, 12:04

buying shampoo is like buying laundry soap to me .. i hate buying it, but i gotta have it.
i have super thick, straight hair and ever since my hysterectomy in '09 my hair is more dry and stubborn.

my obgyn recommended Biolage shampoo for me. i got it from my hair salon. DANG that stuff is expensive. because my hair is so thick i don't need to wash it every day ... in fact my best hair day is day 2 after washing it. good thing, cause the shampoo might last a little longer.

for all you thick hair girls, what shampoo do you use?

I recently switched to John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Shampoo and Conditioner and I love it !
It also comes for blondes and in between colors and it really does bring out a healthy shine.

I used Biolage for the longest time and I agree it is very expensive !!!! I have super thick hair and as
long as my hair was before my haircut ,it ate up that bottle quickly.

I will have to try that stuff, Norma. I need shine, too.

My hair is thick and dry, too. It has this curl underneath, too, that is so annoying.

I started spending money on Frizz stuff (I have stuff for when I flat iron it and then stuff for when I don't) that I get from the salon. It's expensive but doing it that way is much more affordable. Then I just use Dove or Pantene for day to day washing. I don't see that much of a difference in how soft my hair is with the more expensive shampoos but the Frizz sprays, I really do see a difference.

I invest in a deep conditioner that I use once a week, too. Ever since I went blonde (er, LOL!) my hair is so much dryer. I hate to see it when I am in the pool this summer.

Did I ever tell you guys the story of Owen using my good Aveda shampoo?

Ellen John Frieda has some GREAT frizz stuff that is more reasonable than the stuff I get at the salon so I am using it now too.

I have thick Curly Puerto Rican hair and so far John Frieda has helped the best.

Walmart carries it now:

I had a friend recommend it and was really surprised how much shiner and healthier it made
my hair look.

I really like Assure (shampoo) and Ensure (conditioner) by Nexxus. They carry it at WalMart, and it isn't TOO expensive. I only use the conditioner every once in a while, but the shampoo I use every day and I haven't ever found anything I liked as much as this stuff.

I really have no business in this conversation as I have very thin and fine hair but I just have to say, I am somewhat envious of y'alls thick hair!! Although, I wouldn't like the expense of it, I do wish I had a little more hair so it doesn't look like a wet mop.

I don't use regular shampoo or conditioners anymore! Now I'm a Wen girl. I started using Wen last summer and haven't turned back! It's a whole lot more expensive but the condition of my hair is sooo much healthier, shinier and softer! http://chazdean.com/t-aboutwen.aspx

well, i used the Biolage stuff today and it is awful in my hair!!! my hair feels "goopy" and has an oily feel to it. i'm going to try and return it my hair girl ... i understand if she can't let me return it, but either way i'm not going to use it anymore. my hair is so gross feeling today. Sad

i have a little sample bottle of the john freiden stuff ... i think i'll give that a try.
andrea, i've never heard of Wen ... i'm going to read up on it ...thanks for the link.

I'm like Renee, have no business talking here because my hair is very fine! I find that I have to switch my hair products....I find something that I really like but then after a while, it seems like it doesn't work. I found that if I switch them up, they work better.....maybe that's just a fine hair thing!

Mine is super thick too Carrie - and super curly. It's prone to dryness - I can't wash it every day, otherwise it would be one huge frizz ball. I LOVE Redken's All Soft Shampoo & Conditioner. Doesn't weigh my hair down, leaves it nice and soft. I also use Tekkia (sp?) Shea Butter Hair Mask twice a week. You coat your hair with it, let it sit for 15-20 minutes and rinse. SUPER soft hair, SUPER soft.

Yup, I've got thin fine hair too...envious of all you ladies that have thick hair. I don't have a specific kind. I have to change things up too.
