PostSubject: To sketch or not to sketch? That is the question....   May 25th 2011, 10:10

Just curious...how do you feel about using sketches for your layouts? I was just reading a blog post where the person was talking about sketches and how she used to feel she was cheating or being lazy but now loves using them.

Just wondering how you look at using sketches. Do you feel like your cheating or not being truly creative by using a sketch? How often do you use them?

I'm not a big sketch user myself, unless it's for a specific challenge or assignment. I do find that I feel like I'm "cheating" or not being truly creative when I use one....I think I just realized that! LOL However, when I do use them for an assignment, I love them! Makes my layouts much quicker.

What do you think?

I LOVE sketches! I usually sketch my own layouts before I start...but my layout rarely looks like it came from my sketch.
Once in a while I'll find a sketch from a magazine or the internet and use it.

Although I like the concept of sketches, I am not a sketch lover. I prefer to fly by the seat of my crafty pants when creating.

It depends. If I sit and stare at my layout too long and do nothing but push paper around, I will try to look for a good sketch.

I'm a BIG fan of Sketchy Thursdays. I haven't played along in a while but I have every week printed out for my go to!!!

i don't feel like i'm cheating or not being creative if i create with a sketch ... my problem is i sometimes feel boxed in when working with a sketch. i always seem to change it around to what works for my brain and sometimes it resembles nothing like the original sketch. Smile

I usually turn to sketches when I'm just sitting there looking at the photos I have and NOTHING is coming to me. I LOVE sketches, mostly because I really don't have a lot of time to come up with a whole lot on my own. Now like Carrie, by the time my project is done it usually looks very little like the original sketch, but that's okay! Sketches are meant to be a jumping off point, a little inspiration!

Blessings,

Garsy

I couldn't have said it better. Very Happy I need to be free to fly by the seat of my crafty pants too:)
